Initial Enquiry/Referral
1

Our patients at Maple orthodontics are usually referred to us from their general dentist but we are also happy for people who contact us through their own line of enquiry via our website or ‘word of mouth’ from an existing patient.

Our team of fully qualified, experienced and friendly staff will make an initial consultation appointment which is mutually convenient to both patient and orthodontist. These appointments are confirmed 24 hours before via text message or telephone call.

The first orthodontic visit
2

At Maple orthodontics we endeavour to ensure that your first visit is as memorable and informative as possible, after all we only have one chance to make a good first impression. You will be greeted by one of our knowledgeable staff who will always have the time to reassure and explain the initial process to you so you feel relaxed about your first visit.

One of our Specialist orthodontist will gather clinical records, take digital photographs and x-rays which will be used to demonstrate the treatments available and best suited to each individual need. During this appointment we will also establish from the patients what their concerns are and what expectations they have of our specialists and the practice.

Treatment planning and decision

Our specialist orthodontists at the practice often prefer the adult patients to make a second appointment, this will allow them time to gather additional information. This will ensure they give a clear and concise treatment plan to suit your individual needs and have time to prepare a full report with costs and options so you are able to take the information away and make the informed decision in the comfort of your own home. We always send a full report of your visit to your general dentist so they are also kept informed.

Types of appliance
4

There are various types of braces available to our patients. For adult patients, the choice of appliance is decided between the orthodontist and patient with each individual special requirement taken into consideration. The choice could be between labial (outside braces) and lingual (inside braces). For labial braces, there is also a choice of ceramic (tooth coloured) or stainless steel. Please visit the treatments section of our website to learn more…..

Oral Hygiene
5

A good standard of oral health is crucial even before we begin a course of orthodontic treatment. We pride ourselves in giving every patient full instructions and demonstrations once the brace has been fitted and we expect everyone to maintain excellent levels of oral hygiene throughout.

Treatment process
6

Once you have made the decision to start a course of treatment at Maple orthodontics the process begins. A contract between yourself and your orthodontist is drawn up and signed once the treatment plan and brace type has been decided.Your first appointment will give us the opportunity to answer any further questions and take records of the position of your teeth before treatment start. This will help us to check progress during treatment.

Two appointments are then made for the braces to be fitted and full instructions are given on how to care for your appliance. We also take photographs throughout treatment to ensure both orthodontist and patient are happy with treatment progress.

Removing braces and fitting retainers
7

When your orthodontist feels that your treatment is complete they will take clinical photographs to ensure you are happy with the finished result. It is only when both orthodontist and patient are happy that the brace will be removed.

All of our independent and private patients are fitted with permanent upper and lower bonded retainers as well as acrylic removable retainers to be worn at night. Remember – retention is an extremely important part of your orthodontic treatment. Without correct and consistent wear of the appliances, you could run the risk of allowing the beautiful results achieved to relapse and your teeth could end up back in the position they were in before treatment started.
